Happy New Year! I hope that everyone had a wonderful holiday season! I had a great time hearing what all of you were up to over the break. Half of the school year is FINISHED! I can't believe it. I am excited and hopeful for the remaining time with these great kiddos! ** Please look at and keep all papers inside orange envelope! Sign the front and return. IMPORTANT UPDATES: SPELLING: 1) We will now have two nights of spelling homework! On Monday students will be able to choose ONE activity from the spelling menu. This is found on the back of the homework sheet. On Tuesday, students will write the words two times each- just as usual. 2) We are now counting off for letters that are written as capitals on spelling tests and for letters that are facing the wrong direction. Please make sure to instill in your child to check their letters and words! :) (I will give many reminders) 3) Starting this week I will dictate a sentence using two spelling words for the students to write on the test. I will be looking for the spelling words written correctly, sight words, sentences beginning with a capital, and ending with a punctuation mark. We will practice many times in class this week. **An example might be "I saw a stone by the mole." AR: Please have your child read two books a week to take AR quizzes! The new goal list and AR slips were sent home today. The class goal is 4 points and the honors goal is 8 points for the 3rd nine weeks. Reading rocks!
Hello parents! Just a couple more weeks and half the year is OVER! I can not believe it. The kids have learned so much already and thankfully we still have half a year to explore more of first grade! I think I have the best bunch of kiddos around and I feel very lucky. Here are a few reminders and updates: ACCELERATED READER- The last day to take AR tests is this Friday! (12/7) Please send them in so that your student can reach their goals! :) I am so impressed that so many have reached their HONORS goal! Starting on 12/10- any AR quizzes taken will count for the 3rd nine weeks! STUDENT TESTS & GRADES- I am sending home the student grade envelope on TUESDAY! I am sorry that it is a bunch of them, I forgot to send them home during the week of Thanksgiving Feast! I have a few more to add, but I wanted to get these to y'all ASAP. Check the student progress center to see approximately where your student is now. I'll be adding grades as the last weeks come.I will send these weekly for the rest of the nine weeks! FIELD TRIP- Our field trip to LASM is on Thursday, 12/13. Please send field trip form and $9 to school. If payment is an issue for any reason, please contact me or the office and we will work it out! Thank you. :) *Parents are welcome to attend but will meet us at LASM. Please let me know in advance if you would like to attend, so that I can give LASM an approximate number. STEM Materials : We are creating a communication device using sound and/or light energy in science lab! If you have any paper towel rolls or empty cans please send them our way! We will build our devices next Monday. We already created a design.
The kids did an AMAZING job singing at the Veteran's Day Assembly! They were complimented all day! I am SO proud!

I can't believe it's already October! We have a 4 day week this week! Students DO NOT have school on Friday (October 5th) or Monday (October 8th)! Science Quiz- Review Study Guide for quiz TUESDAY Oct. 2nd! (study guide attached) Scholastic Book Order due 10/9- I realize that I had put it due on 10/8, but since we don't have school we will move it 10/9 Parent/Teacher Conferences- I will send a notice soon about finding a time soon to chat about your students progress so far in the First Grade. :)
